fbpx Master of Science (MS) | University of Maryland Project Management

The Master of Science in Civil Engineering with a Major in Project Management program is for students who want to focus on a specific subject in depth (thesis) or who may want to advance to a doctoral degree. The degree includes a minimum of 24 credits of course work plus 6 credits of thesis research. The thesis culminates in a document that reports on the research and its conclusions, combined with a verbal presentation to and examination by a faculty committee of three members.

The thesis option is highly recommended for students who plan to pursue a Ph.D. or who seek to work in a research field. It is also attractive to students who want to pursue a particular topic in greater depth. Employers that send their promising young professionals to our program often have a particular technical problem they would like the student to focus on, and the thesis offers that opportunity.

The MS graduate project management program is designed with a foundation of five core courses and a series of electives that enable students to select topics of greatest interest. All core courses and electives are shown below.

There is a set of pre-approved graduate elective courses that could be substituted for a project management graduate program elective. Learn more at: Pre-Approved Electives.
