Graduate Assistant Clara Cheung has been selected as a Distinguished Teaching Assistant for the 2012-2013 school year. A reception will be held on May 10th. Clara Cheung has been the TA for ENCE662, or Introduction to Project Management at the graduat elevel, and for ENCE320, Introduction to Project Management at the undergraduate level. She has been a TA for the past 4 years. "There is nothing better than working at what you are passionate while others recognize your contribution and achievement," said Cheung. Cheung is currently completing the University Teaching and Learning Program, which is organized by the Center for Teaching Excellence. With this award, she is being recognized as the top 10% of TAs at the University of Maryland. James Clark school of Engineering was recently elected to Poland's Academy of Engineering. While visiting his native Poland in March to deliver a lecture, he was notified that he had been elected to the Academy. "I certainly felt honored, especially for the fact that this recognition came from my native country which has strong traditions in science and engineering," said Skibniewski. Skibiewski, a professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, started his career studying civil engineering the the 1970's at the Warsaw University of Technology before moving to the United States for work. He earned his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees at Carnegie Mellon University, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He worked at Purdue University in Indiana for about 20 years before moving to the University of Maryland in 2005. An alumni luncheon was part of the GAC conference. (Mark Hsu/UMD) On Monday, February 25, 2013, the Global Accreditation Center for Project Management Educational Programs (GAC) visited the University of Maryland. The visit occurs every seven years- the last visit was the university's initial accreditation, in 2005. "[The GAC] got to ';look under the hood' so to speak," said John Cable, the director of the Project Management program. "The visit went well, and I don't anticipate any problems. In their out-brief to us on Wednesday, they had really positive things to say." During the re-accreditation visit, the GAC took a comprehensive look at the school's program, learning outcomes, faculty resumes, classes and library resources.
