Steve brings real estate and enterprise management experience to project management courses.

Biography

Steve is the VP, Integrated Real Estate and Facilities for MedStar Health based in Columbia, MD. In his role, he provides enterprise-wide strategic and operational responsibility for managing the system’s outsourced contractor for all real estate services and facility operations including ten hospital campuses and 240 non-acute sites in Baltimore, Washington, D.C., and Northern Virginia. He also collaborates with corporate and entity senior leadership overseeing real estate, master planning, space allocation, facility management and compliance for this robust $4B healthcare system.

Steve joined MedStar Health following 23 years of military service. His career is marked by progressive leadership roles in health facility planning and healthcare management with recent key leader positions serving as the Deputy Director of Facilities, Defense Health Agency; Commander (CEO), US Army Health Facility Planning Agency; and Deputy Commander Administration (COO), 115th Combat Support Hospital in Iraq. He served in a variety of other roles in health facility planning, design and construction, as well as executive positions in support of Army Medicine and the TRICARE health plan.

Steve is a registered Professional Engineer in Virginia, a Fellow in the Health Facilities Institute, a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives, and a Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers. He earned a PhD in Civil Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a Masters in Engineering and Bachelors in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University. His doctoral dissertation focused on “Balancing Capital and Condition: an Emerging Approach to Facility Investment Strategy.”
